Distinguished for her iconic ring-inspired art furniture, Artist Hyobeen Bang crafts narratives of connection within her oeuvre. From her earliest memories, the undulating rhythms of lines and the vivacity of color have entranced her. Childhood days spent amid the intersecting lattices of jungle gyms which forged connections with newfound friends laid the foundational inspiration for her signature "O-ring Series''.

Utilizing the ancient chain-mailing technique – a method defined by the interlinking of myriad rings – Bang's creations are not just aesthetic outcomes but narratives of her intricate journey in crafting each piece. Historically employed in the forging of armor and fine jewelry, the chain-mailing technique in the O-ring Series evokes a symbiosis between venerable traditions and avant-garde craftsmanship.

Challenging conventional notions of furniture as mere functional entities, Bang's work aspires to elevate furniture into the echelons of fine art. By employing metals, and bending them into curvilinear forms that defy classical design paradigms, Bang offers a radical reconceptualization of furniture's essence.

Reflecting on her process, she eloquently states,

"In every ring I mold, I am swept into a vast expanse of thought and memory. Visions of my youthful days on the playground ring meld with musings on the profound universality of the circle. When these rings unite, the limitless paths of existence unfurl before me. Yet, within these interconnections, I find a serene clarity, a dissolution of life's intricate entanglements. Art-furniture conceived in this manner transcends mere form, emerging as a haven for the soul and intellect alike.”

Hyobeen Bang is currently living and working in Seoul. Right now, she is pursuing her master's degree at SeoulTech where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metal Art and Design.
