Candy Angle Yellow is one of Yehrim's most technically ambitious bodies of work. Rather than referencing a specific aspect of Korean culture, it reflects her desire to push the physical limits of clay.
Clay is a living material that constantly responds to gravity, moisture, heat, and the firing process. In this series, Yehrim intentionally challenged those limitations by creating forms that seem to defy the material itself.
Each piece is the result of extensive experimentation with layered glazes, carved surfaces, and forms that push against the physical limits of clay. Yehrim develops and mixes many of her own glazes, applying them in multiple layers before firing the work five or more times to achieve the final surface. Every firing subtly changes the form, color, and texture, making the process both technically demanding and inherently unpredictable.
While Yehrim's practice is deeply informed by her Korean background and her family's tradition of onggi making, Candy Angle Yellow is less about representing a specific cultural motif and more about exploring the expressive potential of clay itself.
